MOIST – an eye-dazzling cinémontage
An eye-circus of moving images about dance, sex, death, water. . . and ultimately life!
Something for the brain, something for the heart, something for the naughty bits – and much for the funny bone.
Like the Chaplin scene it includes – it is a dance to the absurdity and joy of life!

At age 43, artist aleXander hirka, adapted his skills of creating visual collages – the putting together diverse elements to create a new work – to the art of cinema. Tangled in existential mid-life angst, and armed with only two VHS tape machines – utilizing no editing or digital equipment – he put together a 50+ minute eye-circus of moving images about dance, sex, death, water… and ultimately, life. Something for the brain, something for the heart, something for the naughty bits – and much for the funny bone.
Time has not created the opportunity for him to pull the film into digital editing software and correct it’s many amateurish flaws – including a few scenes where the volume drops to barely audible levels – so he has finally decided to release the film as it is, transfered to DVD.
“…Reading these things psychologically, water is the subconscious…the creature in the water would be the dynamism of the subconscious… The God of Death is the Lord of the Dance… The Lord of Death is the Lord of Sex at the same time…one after another you can see… Osiris, the Lord of Death and the Lord of the Generation of Life… it’s a basic theme, that which dies is born… you have to have death in order to have life…”
– Joseph Campbell, The Power of Myth
